2. The Background

First of all create a new document for your birthday card, since this is just a tutorial I havn’t used a real card size, but something made up. I used 460×640.
Fill the background with your newly made pattern (Get the Paint Bucket Tool and change the Fill Mode to Pattern and from the list, choose your pattern.)

All I added extra in the background was some highlights in the bottom left and top right corners. I added these by making a selection with the Polygonal Marquee Tool and making a White to Transparent gradient inside of them.
