Right-click the selection and click Select Inverse, press delete.

The next thing to do is add these layer styles to the starfish layer:
Inner Glow
Gradient Overlay
Pattern Overlay
Stroke
Now you should have a result like so:

On a new layer add some eyes, (two round white circles.)

On another new layer add the pupils, (two smaller circles filled with light blue, #517490.)

Add a mouth by using the Pen Tool, (get your brush tool and get a small, hard brush, then draw a line with the pen tool, right click the path and click “stroke path.”)

That’s all for starfish number 1, you can make another starfish in exactly the same way, except I wanted it a bit different, so I rotated it a little and used a slightly different color!
