3. Layer Styles
Apply the following Layer Styles to the orb layer:
Outer Glow
Inner Glow
Stroke
You should have a result like so:
Now much different, but everything counts.
4. Reflections & Highlights
On to the highlights.. create a new layer then select the main orb layer.
(Note: Select layers by holding CTRL and Clicking the Layer Thumbnail…)
Contract the selection by 2 pixels by going to Select > Modify > Contract and inputting 2 (two)
From above of the selection to the bottom, draw a White to Transparent gradient like so:
Change the Layer Mode to Overlay and lower the opacity to 35%.
Again select the main orb layer, this time contract the selection by 5 (five) pixels.
With the Pen Tool 
make a curvy path like so:
