Now you’ll need to get out the Burn Tool to make the scroll look a little more singed.

You’ll need to use the following settings for the Burn Tool:

Now, on the scroll layer, click and drag the cursor over the paper slighlty, repeat until your paper looks something like this:

The main places I burnt were the top left and right corners, and the bottom left and right corners, also the middle areas.
Lastly, you might want to apply Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen.

Select the whole scroll (CTRL+A) and press CTRK+C to copy it, create a new document much smaller (about 400 x 400 pixels,) now paste it inside of the new document.
Now you’ll need to resize the scroll to a much smaller size. I resized my scroll to about 7.0% by 8.0%. You can do this by press CTRL+T and sizing it down or inputting the size at the top.

Note that the background color I’ve used above is #272d31.
Now apply Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen once to the small scroll layer, next apply this Outer Glow.
